Bahamian artist Anina Major will open TERN Gallery’s fall season with her solo exhibition “SOON COME HOME.” Running from September 16 to October 26, 2026, the show presents a new body of work that expands Major’s exploration of memory, migration, and material culture through sculptural environments. [And, yes… to those wondering, the exhibition’s title is inspired by Erna Brodber’s Jane and Louisa Will Soon Come Home.] The opening takes place on Wednesday, September 16, from 7:00 to 9:00pm, with DJ Sherwood Rahming, at TERN Gallery (located at Mahogany Hill, Western Road, Nassau, The Bahamas).
Description: September brings Bahamian artist Anina Major back to TERN for SOON COME HOME (September 16 – October 26, 2026), her second solo exhibition with the gallery and a homecoming of sorts for an artist whose work has long considered what it means to leave, return, remember, and remaking.
Major is perhaps best known for her intricate ceramic works, hand-woven in clay to recall the palm-leaf plaiting she learned from her grandmother. It is a language rooted in Bahamian craft traditions, but one she continually pushes into new territory. In SOON COME HOME, ceramic is joined by glass, found objects, neon, and larger sculptural environments as Major expands her thinking around memory, migration, and material culture.
The exhibition takes its title and inspiration from Caribbean author Erna Brodber’s Jane and Louisa Will Soon Come Home, asking: what does it mean to find one’s way home? Major considers home not as a fixed geography, but as an ongoing practice of remembering, repairing, and remaking. [. . .]
It’s an especially exciting season for Major. Just two weeks after SOON COME HOME opens in Nassau, her first major solo institutional exhibition, “The Sacred Mangrove,” opens at Pérez Art Museum Miami on October 1, 2026, where it will remain on view through August 1, 2027.
