Description: This panel discussion of Scholars on Haiti will focus on the current escalation of gang violence in the country in recent weeks as well as the possible scenarios to resolve it.

Since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise in July 2021, gang violence has risen in Haiti. Violence and kidnappings are at record levels. That security situation is also a major obstacle to restoring a representative government through credible elections. Today, there are no elected officials left in Haiti.

This panel discussion of Scholars on Haiti will focus on the current escalation of gang violence in the country in recent weeks as well as the possible scenarios to resolve it. March 29th also marks the 37th anniversary of Haiti’s 1987 Constitution.

Introduced by Dr. Serafin M Coronel Molina, CLACS’ Director, the speakers will be discussing Haiti’s security situation and escalating humanitarian crisis, and figure out which scenario might work best for today’s country.
