2024 Puerto Rico Cigar Convention

Jomar José Rivera Cedeño (El Nuevo Día) reports that, after a successful edition last year, the Puerto Rico Cigar Convention will take place on May 25, 2024, from 10:00am to 6:00pm at Vivo Beach Club. He writes that “the event promises innovation, culinary experiences, musical attractions, local and international exhibitors, crafts, spirits, cigar-inspired fashion, and art.” Here are translated excerpts from El Nuevo Día.

[. . .] The event, presented for the second year by the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, promises innovation, culinary experiences, musical attractions, local and international exhibitors, crafts, liquors, fashion, and art inspired by cigars. In addition, an exhibition on the history of tobacco in Puerto Rico will be highlighted from the private collection of cigar roller and historian Guillermo Rosario “Don Rosario,” who has been a master teacher of great cigar roller artisans on the island for many years.

Over 20 international cigar brands will be present at the Puerto Rico Cigar Convention, including: EP Carrillo, La Galería, Fratello, Plasencia, Gurkha, La Aurora, Rocky Patel, Abeja Cigar, Olivia, and La Flor Dominicana.

Another attraction will be the demonstration of the different stages of tobacco cultivation to culminate in the experience of making your own cigar and attaching the official ring on it.

The musical part of the event will be led by Jesse Calderón and his orchestra Son a Toa and the group A son de Guerra with their tribute to Juan Luis Guerra.

“This convention serves as a platform to strengthen the tobacco industry in Puerto Rico and show the quality with which we produce here. In addition to exchanging knowledge and networking with other manufacturers who may see the island as a destination to market their products, of course, [another goal is to] have a good time,” said producer Osvaldo Rocafort, who recognized the figure of Patricio Peña, owner of Don Rey Cigar, as one of his collaborators.

Traditional hand-rolled cigars to cutting-edge smoking accessories and conversations with industry insiders are [all] part of the convention’s offering, with topics such as “Women in the world of cigars,” by Altagracia Ovalle; “History of tobacco in Puerto Rico,” by Guillermo Rosario and “Pairing and cigars,” by Eladio Díaz. “The idea is to connect with cigar enthusiasts through a unique social and educational event in Puerto Rico,” said Alí Warrington, associate producer.

This year the Puerto Rico Cigar Convention will add the art to the event’s commemorative box that has 10 premium cigars. The artwork, created by Luis Gabriel González, will also be used in a poster that highlights the tobacco industry, from harvesting and preparation to the commercial part of sales and consumption.

Tickets are now on sale through the Ticketera platform.
