Dominican painter Fernando Ureña Rib died today in Berlin, Germany, where he had been admitted to a health center. Ureña Rib was born on March 21, 1951 in La Romana.

He began his painting studies at the fine arts school of San Francisco de Macoris in 1963, and obtained a grant to study at the National School of Fine Arts in 1968, where he graduated under the guidance of teacher and acclaimed painter Jaime Colson.

Ureña Rib was a former president of the Dominican Artist Association (CODAP), and a member of AICA, (Association International de Critiques d’ Art) and AIAP (Association International des Artistes Plastiques), both in Paris.
