[Many thanks to filmmaker Caridad Sorondo for bringing this item to our attention.] The 2026 Caguas Book Fair [Feria del Libro de Caguas] takes place between April 23 and 26, with a variety of exciting events in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The book fair is dedicated to one of my favorite Puerto Rican writers, Ana Lydia Vega!
On Sunday, April 26, there will be a tribute to the writer taking place all day, beginning with a reading and musical performance based on her story (which I read to my son on so many evenings) Celita y el mangle zapatero, performed by her daughter Lolita Villanúa and her Andanza Dance Company.
The Editorial Board of the journal El Sol (published by the Teachers’ Association) will launch a special issue dedicated to Vega (cover shown above) with artwork by Antonio Martorell and articles by leading figures of the literary and academic sphere in Puerto Rico, such as (in alphabetical order) India Bobonis-Pastrana, Vanessa Droz, Leticia Franqui, Magali García Ramis, Antonio Martorell, Mayra Montero, Juan Antonio Ramos, and José Luis Vega, among others.
