In “’Entre cosmovisiones y resistencia’: artistas de Guadalupe, Aruba y Puerto Rico,” El Adoquín Times [Periódico El Adoquín] recently announced a collaborative artist residency organized by Fundación Verde Aguacate and curator Rocío Tejada: “Entre cosmovisiones y resistencia” [Between Worldviews and Resistance], featuring projects by Cédrick Isham (Guadalupe), filmmaker and photographer; Velvet Zoe Ramos (Aruba), visual artist; and Teresa Karolina (Puerto Rico), movement artist. The artists’ projects will run through September 30, 2025, at various spaces. All events are free and open to the public (see schedule below).

From today [May 19] until September 30th, the collaborative artist residency “Entre Cosmovisiones y Resistencia” (Between Worldviews and Resistance) will take place. This initiative brings together creators from diverse backgrounds to “explore the intersections between Caribbean identity, migration, spirituality, and resistance to the social and ecological changes of our time.” Organized by Fundación Verde Aguacate, the residency includes a series of presentations, community interventions, and creative collaborations that seek to generate reflection and dialogue through art in the context of the contemporary Caribbean.
Among the featured participants are Cédrick Isham (Guadeloupe), a filmmaker and photographer, who will present a documentary series on Carnival as an act of cultural resistance and spiritual expression; Velvet Zoe Ramos (Aruba), visual artist, will offer a sensory installation in which the public can taste recipes made with native Puerto Rican foods; [and] Teresa Karolina (Puerto Rico), movement artist, will share a performance rooted in her Yoruba practice, as a reflection on the body as a channel of memory.
Curator and project director, Rocío Tejada, emphasized that the residency seeks to strengthen regional ties and embrace contemporary narratives about our identity. “We haven’t had the opportunity, as Puerto Ricans, to connect with the communities of Guadalupe and Aruba. We tend to connect with the Spanish-speaking islands and the Greater Antilles. Currently, there isn’t an exchange to learn about what’s happening there, and the idea is to generate it.”
The activities will be carried out in collaboration with cultural and community spaces in different regions of the island, including Taller La Playa (Ponce); La Lineal (Río Piedras); the Centro Paz para Ti (Adjuntas); La Casa de los Contrafuertes (San Juan); Corredor Afro (Loíza); the Vieques Film and Human Rights Festival; and the Puerto Rico School of Fine Arts and Design (San Juan), among others.
The program will also feature collaborations with renowned Puerto Rican artists, such as maestro Antonio Martorell and Ponce muralist Rafael “Rafique” Vega, whose careers provide a valuable intergenerational bridge to the creative process. They will also be joined by choreographer Jaime Maldonado and fashion designer Alana Zayas.
