Kings & Queens, a new suite of fifteen prints by Hew Locke (b. 1959) is on view at The Armory Show, New York (24 – 27 September 2026), across Cristea Roberts Gallery’s booth and Platform, a curated section of fair the featuring artworks that reflect the Caribbean’s fluid, entangled reality – bound by shared concerns with movement, water, memory, and material transformation.
Works from this series are available to buy as a set or single prints. The series is presented in a bespoke portfolio box designed by the artist, featuring one of the artist’s distinctive, parading figures on its cover.
Hew Locke is best known for his sculpture and large-scale installation, such as the 2022 Tate Britain commission The Procession, exhibited in the Duveen Galleries. The artist who was recently awarded Apollo’s 2025 Artist of the Year, has created a series of screenprints that combine catalysed ink and gold-leaf.
In Locke’s prints, a bold procession of characters marches forward in vibrant colours. Known for a style that has been described as “postcolonial baroque” Locke’s ensemble evoke the spirit of Carnival, of costume and masquerade, in the wake of colonial legacies, such as migration and the diaspora.
