Description: The Bayamón Art Museum (MAB) presents La imagen construida: representaciones de la arquitectura en Puerto Rico, an exhibition exploring the various ways in which artists have interpreted architecture from the mid-20th century to the present, and how these representations document our relationship with inhabited space, its memory, and the country’s evolution.
The exhibition gathers works by 33 artists across different generations—spanning painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and installation—in dialogue with a selection from the Bayamón Art Museum’s permanent collection. Participating artists include Ada del Pilar Ortiz, Andrés Bueso Sanllehi, Annex Burgos, Antonio Navia, Bárbara Díaz Tapia, Bobby Cruz, Carlos Raquel Rivera, Carlos Rodríguez, Edra Soto, Efrén Candelaria, Enoc Pérez, Gamaliel Rodríguez, Isabel Bernal, Jaime Suárez, Jotham Malavé, Karlo Andrei Ibarra, Luis Torres de la Haba, Manuel Hernández Acevedo, María de Mater O’Neill, Mariana Ramos Ortiz, Migdalia Umpierre, Myrna Báez, Natalia Sánchez, Nathan Budoff Mckibben, Néstor Otero, Norma Vila Rivero, Pablo Santiago Romera, Rafael Tufiño, Rogelio Báez Vega, Rubén Rivera Aponte, Víctor Vázquez, Yamileth Flores Reyes, and Yiyo Tirado.
Through diverse visual, conceptual, and symbolic approaches, the works examine architecture as an expression of identity, belonging, and memory, as well as a repository of experiences and socio-historical narratives. The exhibition features representations of Spanish colonial heritage, agro-industrial architecture, and modern design, alongside residential and institutional architecture. Themes such as materials, territory, inhabited space, and ruins are also addressed, extending to sacred and abstract projections of built memory.
With this exhibition, the Bayamón Art Museum fosters an encounter between generations and artistic languages, reaffirming its commitment to preserving and sharing Puerto Rican artistic heritage. The exhibition establishes new connections between past and present and invites reflection on architecture not merely as structure, but rather as a fundamental part of our visual and collective memory.
Regular museum hours: Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
