Meet the Author: Licia Fiol-Matta and “The Great Woman Singer”

On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00pm, the Center for Puerto Rican Studies will host a meet-the-author event featuring Licia Fiol-Matta. She will speak about her book, The Great Woman Singer: Gender and Voice in Puerto Rican Music. The event will be held at North Café, West Building, 3rd Floor, Hunter College, 68th Street and Lexington Avenue, New York City.

In her book, Fiol-Matta analyzes the lives and works of Ruth Fernández, Myrta Silva, Ernestina Reyes (La Calandria) and Lucecita. She also shares that New York and the Diaspora play a huge role in the careers of Myrta Silva and La Calandria. The evening’s commentator will be Arnaldo Cruz-Malave (Fordham University).
