The 21st edition of the Lima Film Festival will take place from August 4 to 12, with over 300 films showing the best of Latin American cinema and the world in Peru’s capital, organized by the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru [Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú]. The organizing theme of this year’s film festival is “Latinoamérica Sin Fronteras” [Latin America without Boundaries]. Caribbean films include the Cuban selections Santa y Andrés, Los sobrevivientes, and Últimos días en La Habana [photo above] as well as Carpinteros, from the Dominican Republic. Among the documentary films representing France, we can also find I Am Not Your Negro by Haitian filmmaker Raoul Peck.

The festival includes the official competition in the Fiction and Documentary feature categories, which will feature 18 and 12 films, respectively (to be premiered in Peru), from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela.

On this occasion, the festival will pay homage to Gianfranco Brero, the talented Peruvian actor who has excelled in his work in theater, film and television, and who, in 2010, was awarded the Medal of Lima. This year, his work is recognized and screened in the films Ojos que no ven, Bajo la piel, and Tinta Roja.

Similarly, a tribute has been prepared for the Armenian-Canadian director Atom Egoyan, who has developed his cinematographic career in Canada and is recognized for works like Exotica, The Sweet Hereafter, Remember, The Adjuster, among others, which will be shown in this edition of the festival. He will be accompanied by actress Arsineé Khanjian, his wife, with whom he has worked on several of the filmmaker’s most complex films.
