($10 suggested donation.)

Description: “Maria Montez Queen of Technicolor” is Dalia Davi’s one-woman multi-media show about an “unnamed” South Bronx actress who becomes possessed by the spirit of film star Maria Montez, the first Dominican leading lady to conquer 1940s Hollywood. Davi alternates between story-telling, two short films and photo projections. There will be an after-the-performance discussion.

Maria Montez was a Dominican-born motion picture actress who gained fame and popularity in the 1940s as an exotic beauty. Her screen image was that of a hot-blooded Latin seductress, dressed in fanciful costumes and sparkling jewels. She became so identified with these adventure epics that she became known as “The Queen of Technicolor,” appearing in 26 films throughout her career.

Dalia Davi is an award-winning Puerto Rican actress, writer, producer and community activist from the South Bronx. She is committed to performing and producing theater and films to raise social awareness and to inspire educational growth within her community. She belongs to R. Evolucion Latina Shakespeare Project as one of the founders and members. She has also worked in The Public Theatre’s Shakespeare Lab 08, The Puerto Rican Traveling Theater, Ping Chong & Company, Theater for the New City, Queens Theater in the Park, Drama Studio London, and House of Culture in Cozumel, Mexico. Davi can currently be seen in the Spanish TV mini-series “El Don” for Telemicro International.
