Notable Latin music writer and historian Max Salazar Dies at 78

Max Salazar, noted Latin Music historian and musicologist, passed away on Sunday, September 19th, 2010 in Teaneck, New Jersey. He was 78 years old. Born on April 17th, 1932 in “El Barrio,” New York, of Puerto Rican ancestry, Max Salazar was a well known journalist, who wrote exclusive articles and interviewed the legendary musicians in Latin music scene, specially mambo and salsa. He wrote articles for the top music magazines in the United States of America, including Latin Beat Magazine and Billboard.

Max Salazar was also a radio commentator on WBAI and an author. He wrote the 2002 book “Mambo Kingdom: Latin Music In New York” (Omnibus Press).

He was known for his documentation and historical knowledge of Latin and Caribbean music history.
