Ricky Martin to Wed Carlos González Abella

Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin revealed to El Nuevo Día that he will marry his partner Carlos González Abella on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at a ceremony in New York.

Since he announced his homosexuality in March 2010, Martin has declared himself in favor of same sex marriages and he has spoken publicly on the importance of changing legislation in Puerto Rico regarding this issue. Last June, the singer said, “What I wish for is that people say no to discrimination, and that equality among us humans should become a reality in my country.”

Martin made his first public statement about his relationship with economist González Abella at the awards granted by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance against Defamation (GLAAD) in March 2011 saying, “Today I can say that I am free and, because of this, I definitely have to thank my parents for supporting me so much and for their unconditional love, and also to my friends, my family, my fans and my partner and boyfriend, Carlos.”

  1. Another dumb-ass spoiled rich kid who fooled everyone with his talent, but not those who still believe talent alone is not enough to really be the role model for latino youth and culture… Too bad..!!

    1. Luis, you are a bigot and do not represent the latin community today who believes in equality and dignity for all. Go back to a cave and that era..

  2. I am by no means a Martin fan, but I am incredibly delighted a public figure is bold enough to be out and show those who are LGBT that they are not alone and can reach their dreams.

    1. LGBT is what it is.. but the union of a man and a woman, through marraige especially, should not be minimized by pretending it is on par with the gay agenda on marraige !!

      1. Luis, gay marriage is here whether you like it or not. If Ricky wants to marry his partner of three years, he can do so in New York or in Spain where his partner is from. The marriage between them is valued like any other. For those who do not like it well it is too bad for them! Go Ricky! Livin the vida loca!

  3. I wish nothing but happiness for Ricky Martin. I cannot judge someone else’s life style unless mine is spotless. Hum. Ricky has always put a smile on my face & respect in my heart for the love he has inside. Have a happy life, Ricky. The best for you & whomever you wish to bring into it. ❤

  4. What a bunch of immoral idiots without a conscience. How low members of the Latin community have sunk in order to keep up with the mores of Anglo-Saxon philosophy. True Latinos do not believe in a lifestyle that undermines the precepts of our Judeo-Christian values. A gay lifestyle is nothing to be proud of. It may be here to stay but so are many other sick and perverted practices. Those of you who believe in the institution of gay marriage will forever pay the price of nurturing something truly evil and sick and disgusting.
