The Wall House Museum describes: As part of its exhibitions dedicated to other Caribbean islands this summer, the Wall House territorial museum is pleased to present the exhibition Martinique, Cartographies intimes, which brings together twenty-five artists around a sensitive and plural reflection on Martinique, its representations, its memories, its imagination and to celebrate its immense creativity.

Through the diversity of works, forms and perspectives brought together, this exhibition offers to explore the Martinique territory in all its richness, at the crossroads of intimate experience, collective history and contemporary dynamics of the Caribbean. It thus invites us to consider cartography not only as a tool for identification, but also as a way of inhabiting, transmitting and reinventing a space.  Designed as a journey of discovery and dialogue by Karine Taïlamé, curator and multi-disciplinary artist from Martinique, Martinique, Cartographies intimes offers the visitor open reading keys, conducive to a personal approach to the works as well as a broader understanding of the artistic, cultural and territorial issues that run through the exhibition. Le Journal de Saint-Barth writes: This is part of an exhibition titled “Martinique, Intimate Cartographies,” conceived by Karine Taïlamé, who serves as both curator and exhibiting artist. She chose to participate in the exhibition herself as an artist to affirm, as stated in the event’s presentation, “an organic continuity between creation and curation.” This dual role is part of “a contemporary curatorial approach, where the sensory experience of creation directly informs perception and thought.”

“Martinique, Intimate Cartographies” aims to be both a visual and sensory exploration. Its goal is to weave subtle connections between artists and the region “through an internal and resolutely contemporary reading of the Martinican art scene.” It thus offers a journey where the works compose a multifaceted vision of Martinique, “a territory conceived not as a faithful representation but as a lived, experienced, and interpreted reality.”

The twenty-five artists whose works will be exhibited were selected for the uniqueness and maturity of their artistic exploration. They include ceramists, photographers, painters, typographers, and sculptors… Visitors will find photographic works by Jocelyne Béroard, best known as the lead singer of the group Kassav’.

Saint-Barthélemy may also have the distinct honor of welcoming filmmaker Euzhan Palcy, who was awarded the César for Best First Feature in 1984 for “Rue cases nègres,” was nominated for an Oscar in 1989 for “A Dry White Season” (an adaptation of the eponymous novel by South African author André P. Brink), and received an Honorary Oscar in 2022.
