“Writing from the Archives”—Gaiutra D. Bahadur and Vidyaratha Kissoon

The Guyana Gender Hub and the Institute of Gender Studies at the University of Guyana will host “Writing from the Archives” with Gaiutra D. Bahadur and Vidyaratha Kissoon—a launch of and conversation about the digital collection of archival materials used in the research that went into Bahadur’s Coolie Woman: The Odyssey of Indenture (The University of Chicago Press, 2013). This event will take place on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 1:30pm (AST). See Zoom link below.

According to Gaiutra D. Bahadur, Vidyaratha Kissoon curated and catalogued more than 350 documents that she donated for this project, all of which are now accessible through the Guyana Gender Hub at the Digital Library of the Caribbean (https://dloc.com/collections/guyanagenderhubgdb).

Bahadur shares, “Gratitude also to the Gender Hub’s other visionary leaders, Christine Samwaroo and Salima Bacchus-Hinds, and to the Institute of Gender Studies at the University of Guyana for sponsoring the event. Vidya will provide an overview of the project, and I’ll read a passage from the book that highlights the imaginative process of writing with—and against—the archives. And then we gyaff a little and take questions. Join us.”
