The opening day of “The Future Belongs to the Loving” Project is Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 11:00am to 7:00pm (see schedule below). This collective exhibition runs through July 31, 2025. The day includes collaborative workshops, events, and presentations, concluding with the exhibition reception, 5:00 -7:00pm, at MAPSpace (6 North Pearl Street, 4th Floor, Port Chester, New York).
Caribbean-related artists in this collective exhibition include Ram Brisueño (whose part-Puerto Rican upbringing is referenced in his work), Theda Sandiford (based in St. Croix, USVI and Jersey City, New Jersey), and Frankie Tejada Lizardo (Dominican Republic). A special shoutout to my favorite Caribbean-at-heart artist, who is now part of my family, Avery Johnson.

Description: How can artists strengthen the connections and care that foster community in these challenging times of environmental and political crisis? As we encounter individuals and institutions self-censoring in an effort to be “safe,” we come together to hold and celebrate art that is joyous, openly activist, and politically explicit. This project offers the empathetic space of art to encourage practices of artivism and craftivism and to support artists who facilitate community-building. As artists, we can join together to create pathways away from isolation and anchor us in resilient communities to face the challenges ahead.
