Description: This book is one of the publications by the project entitled “Bosques urbanos: Historias, usos y significados” [Urban Forests: Stories, Uses, and Meanings]. In this collection—and through anecdotes, stories, and poetry—a group of 11 undergraduate students from different disciplines (sociology, comparative literature, art theory, biology, microbiology, geology, and engineering) from UPR-Mayagüez approach the ecological issue from an ingenious and engaging perspective. The texts underscore the importance of trees both in the ecological sphere and in the social and cultural fabric of our country. [. . .]

The “Bosques urbanos” project, and this publication, have been made possible thanks to the support of the Urban and Community Forestry Program of the International Institute of Tropical Forestry of the United States Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service.

Tania López Marrero, assistant professor atUPR-Mayagüez, holds an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Geography (with emphasis in Human-Environment relationships and Cartography) from Pennsylvania State University.
