The Luis A. Ferré Fine Arts Center Corporation commemorates its 44th anniversary with a special event at the Antonio Paoli Festival Hall. To celebrate this significant occasion, the historic special “Puerto Rico Fine Arts Center: The Heartbeat of a People” narrated by Cordelia González and José Juan Tañón will be presented.

Since its inauguration on April 9, 1981, the Centro de Bellas Artes has been a fundamental pillar in Puerto Rico’s artistic and cultural scene. Designed by architect Rodolfo Fernández, this space has hosted countless theatrical productions, artistic presentations and concerts, consolidating itself as an essential meeting point for local and international talent.

The process of compiling data, plans, architecture, works, among many other memories has been extremely interesting and enriching. With this, we want to honor one of the most important and historic squares in our country,” adds the professor and manager, Idamaly Jiménez.

Theater development in Puerto Rico has deep roots that date back to the early twentieth century, experiencing remarkable growth in the decades of the thirties and forties. Thanks to the Theater Promotion Program of the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, directed by Francisco Arriví, Puerto Rican theater received a decisive boost, giving way to the formation of theater, zarzuela, ballet and folkloric dance companies. This evolution highlighted the need for an infrastructure in line with the growing talent and creativity of the country, giving rise to the Luis A. Ferré Fine Arts Center. [. . .]
