Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts to Exhibit Art Made From Madras

During March, Virgin Islands History month, the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts will be curating an exhibit of photography and art that blends contemporary elements with traditional elements in a collection of photos and art that are made primarily out of madras or explores madras patterns.  At the heart of this project, the museum seeks to reconnect attendees with madras.

The exhibit is called “Madras Reimagined,” and it will open on Friday, March 6, with a symposium on the designers at the Museum Center for the Arts in Frederiksted.

The exhibition will merge the experience of art with fashion, and it will culminate in a fashion show.Proceeds will go toward the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts and support efforts to promote the art and artists of the Caribbean and fostering the development of the arts among young people of the Caribbean.The madras fashion show will be held on Saturday, March 7, at the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts. Participating designers are Joseph Bess of Modern Madras, Designs by Ahmad Drumm, Designs by Regal, Andre’ G. Ettienne of The House of Ettienne, Jabari Lake of SJL Collection, Designs by Ms. Emmanuel, Zulema Llanos and Niarus.
