On Monday, February 3, Daddy and the Warlord, a film by Shamira Raphaëla — a director of Aruban and Dutch descent — and Clarice Gargard will air on AfroPoP: The Ultimate Cultural Exchange, the nation’s only public television series dedicated to bringing US audiences true stories about contemporary people living in the African Diaspora.
The film follows Gargard as she journeys to postwar Liberia to reconnect with her father to uncover the truth about his work and involvement with the infamous dictator and war criminal Charles Taylor.
An exploration of family bonds and uncomfortable truths, the documentary takes viewers alongside Gargard as she journeys to find out if her father is the loving parent she remembers or someone with a much more sinister past.
The film debuts on US public television on Monday, February 3 at 8:00 pm ET (10 pm PT) on WORLD Channel as part of AfroPoP’s 12th season. Click here for a sneak peek at the episode.
This season of AfroPoP premiered on January 20 and continues with new episodes every Monday through February 17, 2020, with stories from Brazil, Nigeria, Turkey, South Africa, and the United States.
