In celebration of his 40th artistic anniversary, Gilberto Santa Rosa has begun a tour in the Dominican Republic. As Primerahora reports, he has given forty years of effort, dedication, and engagement to bring the best of his talents to the public.

His concert tour—“40….y contando” [40 years…and counting]—began at the Gran Teatro del Cibao in Santiago, and continued at the Eduardo Brito National Theater in Santo Domingo. He chose to begin the tour in the country that had welcomed him warmly in the mid 90’s, despite the fact that the preferred genre then was merengue.

The Puerto Rican singer says that some of the things he loves about the Dominican people include “their charisma, enthusiasm, [and] happiness” as well as their spontaneity. He is married to model Alexandra Malagón, who has roots in the Dominican Republic. “Alexandra’s family and friends welcome me as part of the family,” he says. “They treat me as if they had known me for their entire lives. Four years ago, we decided to spend Christmas here. It is a beautiful place. In fact, we spent Christmas Eve at Johnny Ventura’s house.”

One of the greatest achievements that the vocalist is thankful for is the support of his fellow Puerto Ricans. “It is a privilege,” he says, while he reminisces, stating that his career began in 77, but as a soloist, he began his career on August 2, 1986.

The tour includes countries such as Costa Rica, Panama, Canada, the United States, and his native uerto Rico, among others. “40… y contando” will arrive in Puerto Rico on February 17, at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum.
