Call for Papers: “Eugenio Maria de Hostos: New Readings and Alternative Interpretations”

Hostos Community College-CUNY will host the conference Eugenio María de Hostos: New Readings and Alternative Interpretations on November 13, 2014. This event is co-sponsored by the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute (City College) and the Center for Puerto Rican Studies (Hunter College). The deadline for submissions is October 3, 2014.

Description: In commemoration of the 175th Anniversary of Hostos’s birth, this conference will bring together new readings and alternative interpretations of Hostos’s many contributions to Latin America, the Hispanic Caribbean, and to Latinos and Latinas in the United States. We invite proposals dealing with, but not limited to, any of the following: Hostos and race, gender, religion, history, freemasonry, education, philosophy, inter-American relations, transatlantic exchanges, democracy, and civil society. Proceedings will be published in the Hostos Review.

Proposals for presentations (250 words maximum) and CV should be submitted to Prof. Ernest Ialongo at eialongo@hostos.cuny.edu by October 3, 2014.
