Havana’s 32nd International Festival of New Latin American Cinema

The 32nd International Festival of New Latin American Cinema of Havana [Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano de La Habana] will be held on December 2-12, 2010.

Audiences will be able to watch feature and documentary films from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Germany, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela. The festival will also host several theoretical/practical workshops such as “Acting in Latin America” for directors—which will have theoretical exchanges as well as a practicum with the collaboration of young Cuban actors—and “Music in Film: Processes and Techniques” taught by Robert Kraft.

The festival will also host the 4th International Forum of Childhood and its Audiovisual Universe and the 4th Conference of the 14th Conference on the Audiovisual Universe of Latin American Children to be held December 6-12, 2010.

Besides the prestigious Coral Awards [Premios Coral], the oficial awards of the Festival, other Cuban and foreign institutions will award additional prizes and honors, such as the awards given by the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), the World Catholic Association for Communication (SIGNIS), UNICEF, Nueva Televisión del SUR, and Amazonia Films.

The industry section of the Festival Internacional will also sponsor the ALBA Cultural Latinoamérica First Copy Award for Postproduction [Premio de Postproducción del ALBA Cultural Latinoamérica Primera Copia]. This initiative aims to facilitate the completion of audiovisual works in the region and to foster interrelationship among producers, representatives of funds, and independent filmmakers. There are 32 projects competing for this award, representing 11 countries: Cuba, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Guatemala, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Uruguay, México, Puerto Rico, and Spain. Some of the competing films are Todos los muertos (Carlos Morel), Canción de iguaque (Juan Manuel Benavides), and Locos (Harold Hernando Trompetero) from Colombia, Chamaco (Juan Carlos Cremata), Marina (Enrique Álvarez Martínez), and Afinidades (Jorge Perugorría-Vladimir Cruz) from Cuba, and Las carpetas (Maite Rivera Carbonell) from Puerto Rico/Spain.
