Call for Papers: South Florida Latin American and Caribbean Studies Graduate Student Conference

Florida Atlantic University, University of Miami, and Florida International University are sponsoring their ninth annual graduate student conference. The South Florida Latin American and Caribbean Studies Graduate Student Conference this year will be organized around the theme “Cultural Identities of the Americas in a Global World.” The conference will take place on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Florida Atlantic University (777 Glades Road, Boca Raton, Florida). Abstracts due February 28, 2011.

The purpose for the conference is to provide a forum for graduate students to share their expertise with peers who have a common interest and passion for the Latin American and Caribbean region. There will be cash awards for the top three papers, as well as the publication of the top papers in the Florida Atlantic Comparative Studies Journal (FACS).

Graduate students are invited to submit an abstract (limit 300-words) electronically to SFSConference@gmail.com. It may address the conference theme, “Cultural Identities of the Americas in a Global World,” from a variety of fields and disciplines, ranging but not limited to issues of gender, ideas of business and development, literature and film, in order to continue to broaden our perspective of Latin American and Caribbean issues, past, present and future.

Final papers should be approximately 15-25 double spaced pages and submitted electronically SFSConference@gmail.com. Papers will be accepted in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Haitian Creole.
