Description (All about Art): In “Conjuraciones con caracolas y otros sortilegios,” Poli Marichal Lugo presents a spiritual universe in which nature reveals itself as a source of memory, mystery, and transformation. Seashells, imbued with the presence of the sea and all that remains after its retreat, become objects of contemplation and mystical power.

Through the language of printmaking, the artist constructs scenes in which the human and the natural seem to meet in a ritual space. Her figures do not simply observe or possess these elements: they gather them, venerate them, and safeguard them. Line and texture, essential to her printmaking practice, lend each image an ancient quality, as if from another time.

Marichal’s conjurations don’t aim to decipher any ancient mystery, but rather to bring it into the present. The conch shell appears as a talisman, a memory of water, and a possible threshold to other worlds.

Galería Guatibirí welcomes this new series by Poli Marichal Lugo as an invitation to look closely at our ancestral legacy and to recognize the extraordinary in seemingly everyday details, and perhaps to teach us to listen to all that still resonates within ourselves.
