In “MARINA lleva a Santurce una mirada en acuarela a los corales y la vida marina del Caribe,” El Adoquín Times announces the exhibition entitled “Marina,” which features a selection of watercolors by Lucía Nieves Cortés. The opening will be held on September 14, 2026, at 5:00pm, at Galería Manifiesto=Arte (located at 1353 Ponce de León Avenue, Santurce, Puerto Rico). The evening includes a presentation by Dr. Antares Ramos Álvarez, co-founder of Sail for Reefs, a Puerto Rico-based organization that works to connect sailing with coral reef conservation initiatives.
A conversation with Nieves Cortés will be held on September 26, while on October 6, as part of Martes de Galería [Gallery Tuesdays], there will be another event dedicated to the exhibition. The closing is scheduled for October 25 at 5:00pm. Here are excerpts from El Adoquín Times.
The diversity of Caribbean corals and marine ecosystems will be the focus of MARINA, an exhibition of original watercolors by artist Lucía Nieves Cortés, on display from September 14 to October 25 at the Manifiesto=Arte Gallery in Santurce.
The exhibition features recent works created as part of the creative process for the 2027 Caribbean Coral and Marine Life Calendar, a project that uses watercolor to introduce the public to the region’s diverse species and ecosystems.
Through this new series, Nieves Cortés also offers a reflection on biodiversity and environmental conservation in the face of the transformations affecting Puerto Rico’s seas, coasts, and other ecosystems.
“When we speak about biodiversity, we’re not just talking about the number or quantity of species; it’s also about the result of hundreds of millions of years of evolution, without which human beings wouldn’t exist on this earth. Losing diversity is losing that biological memory that sustains us now and in the future. It represents a wealth that goes beyond any currency,” the artist expressed. [. . .]
MARINA will allow the public to view the original pieces used in the [calendar] project and to learn about part of the artistic process prior to its production. A pre-sale list will also be available at the opening to reserve copies of the calendar, scheduled for release at the end of October. [. . .]
