Listen to the podcast at RFI. Regarding the interview, Fruchon-Toussaint writes:
On the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Frantz Fanon (1925-1961), Martinican revolutionary and major thinker on decolonization, we take a closer look at his dazzling life, as evidenced by the manga book published by Caraïbéditions, Frantz Fanon, les couleurs du combat, illustrated by Daniel Fernandes de Almeida and written by our guest, Olivier Mery.
From his involvement in the Free French Forces during World War II to his crucial role in the struggle for Algerian independence, Fanon dedicated his life to denouncing the ravages of colonialism and racism. A psychiatrist by training, he exposed with radical lucidity the dehumanization of both the oppressed and the oppressors. His legacy still resonates today. (Presentation by Caraïbéditions.)
Olivier Mery: “A Caribbean author born in 1984 in Saint-Denis (France), I grew up between a boundless imagination and a passion for manga. In 2018, I launched my first freelance manga, inspired by the desire to tell meaningful stories. I anchor my stories in Caribbean and African cultures, between memory and modernity. In 2024, I was recognized by Caraïbéditions and I published my first manga.”
Daniel Fernandes de Almeida was born in 1989 in Águeda (Portugal) and discovered drawing upon his arrival in France at the age of five. He is a visual arts teacher.
