Christopher Cozier: “Itinerancy as Process” (MAC)

The Museum of Contemporary Art [Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (MAC)] in San Juan, Puerto Rico, presents Trinidadian artist Christopher Cozier in a keynote address entitled “Itinerancy as Process.” This lecture will take place on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 6:00pm. The lecture will be delivered in English and will have simultaneous translation into Spanish. [The MAC is located at 1220 Ponce de León Avenue, San Juan, Puerto Rico.]

Christopher Cozier is an artist who lives and works in Trinidad, and is co-director of Alice Yard, a collective project that participated in Documenta 15. In 2004, he received a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and in 2013 he was awarded the Prince Claus Award. Through his drawings in notebooks and his installations derived from recorded staged actions, Cozier explores how the historical and current experiences of the Caribbean may contribute to the understanding of the contemporary world as a whole.

In this lecture the artist proposes looking at the Caribbean as a space rather than a place. Cozier considers the stories of movement and fluidity through water, ways of living, imagining and becoming. He will address ways in which Caribbean life transgresses borders and territories, both physically and mentally.

The conference will be delivered in English and will have simultaneous translation into Spanish.

This event is part of the MAC’s programming to continue expanding knowledge about contemporary art from Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
