Walter Greene focuses on the success of 17 year-old Jamaican model Alexia Palmer, who has been named as the latest model to be chosen as the face of Chanel Cosmetics London [see previous post A New Face for Chanel: Jamaican Model Alexia Palmer]. Green describes this development as major milestone and a significant breakthrough for Palmer and her agency, Pulse. He writes:
Her picture will be plastered all over London on billboards and in adverts for the prestigious brand. She makes history as the first model to be signed to an exclusive Chanel advertising campaign without having a label campaign. She was actually being flooded with agency and assignment offers way before she left her home in Jamaica.
Alexia was a contestant in the annual Pulse Caribbean Model Search 2010, held in Kingston, Jamaica. She placed second in the competition and could not accept any overseas assignments because she was still in high school. Alexia, who is from Allman Town in Kingston, has since finished her studies at Dunoon Technical high school and immediately embarked on her International career. Alexia hit the top tier at the very start of her career with appearances at London Fashion Week for designer Antoni & Allison Fall 2012/2013 collection. She also did an editorial layout in Teen Vogue, posing with the cast of `Glee’ for her Vogue photo shoot. She was the first Jamaican model to appear in Vogue Magazine without being signed to an International agency. The beautiful new star model has since been signed to Trump Models in New York and Marilyn in Paris, Pulse in Jamaica being her home agency.
“This is a major milestone and a significant breakthrough for Pulse, and Alexia. We are delighted that she was selected for this job with Chanel,” said Pulse Agency Director Romae Gordon. Alexia commented: “I am so happy for this opportunity I want to do my best and continue to reach for the stars. I have wanted to be in this place for such a long time and now I am here and I am overwhelmed.” The 5’9″ beauty now joins a cadre’ of Pulse based supermodels who have made an indelible mark on the International fashion arena.
