“Roots, My Story to Tell,” an exhibition by Dominican artist Heston Francis, opened in October 2025 and can still be seen until January 31, 2026, at Bwa Denn Art Gallery (at Secret Bay in Portsmouth, Dominica). Admission is free and the gallery is open daily from 10:00am to 6:00pm. According to “On view in Dominica/Art buzz” (Caribbean Beat), “The exhibition presents a moving visual journey through personal memory and ancestral heritage, exploring Afro-Caribbean legacies, Kalinago traditions, and colonial histories.”
Description (from Q95 News): The solo show delves into themes of personal memory, ancestral legacy, and Caribbean cultural identity. Through richly layered textures and imagery, Francis reflects on Afro-Caribbean roots, Kalinago heritage, and colonial history, offering a complex yet heartfelt narrative of resilience and belonging.
Francis, who described the work as both an intimate reflection and a shared cultural story, seeks to honor the past while celebrating the enduring strength of Caribbean communities. The exhibition invites viewers into a space of contemplation and cultural connection.
