Professor Luis González Sotomayor, curator of the Biennial and president of the Arts Commission at the University of Puerto Rico-Ponce (in Ponce, Puerto Rico) has sent a call for submissions to the XX Bienal de Arte de Ponce [20th Biennial Art Exhibition of Ponce]. The biennial exhibition runs from Thursday, November 12, 2026, until Wednesday, March 31, 2027. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, August 30, 2026, by 11:59pm (AST).

According to Periódica La Perla, González Sotomayor underlined that the previous edition, held in 2014, featured 152 visual artists from Puerto Rico and the United States, with a selection of 111 works, positioning this event “among the top art gatherings in Puerto Rico.”

Description and Guidelines: The Arts Commission at the University of Puerto Rico at Ponce is honored to invite you to participate in the Twentieth Biennial Art Exhibit of Ponce, which will be inaugurated on Thursday, November 12, 2026, until Wednesday, March 31st, 2027.

The committee organizing the Twentieth Biennial Art Exhibit of Ponce invites you to submit one of your works for its possible exhibition in it. The work: painting, sculpture, graphics, drawing, mixed medium, digital art, watercolor or installation, should have the following elements:

1. Be original and innovative

2. Be recently created (in the last three years: 2024, 2025 or 2026, and that has not been previously exhibited)

3. Size (at the discretion of the artist)

4. Ready to be hung (otherwise, it will not be accepted)

5. It should be identified in the back (name of the artist, title, medium and size)

The art works should be delivered to the Department of Humanities [UPR-Ponce] from Monday, August 31st to Friday, September 4, 2026, from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. If you have any difficulty with the time schedule established for the delivery of the pieces, please call if you need other arrangements.

There will be a jury to evaluate the pieces. This jury will be made up by independent members from outside the Ponce Art Biennial Committee. Its decision will be final. Please note that sixty (60) days after the exhibition ends, works that are not reclaimed and picked up will become part of the permanent collection of the Art Commission of the University of Puerto Rico at Ponce. This decision is irrevocable. Also, the Commission of the Arts and the University of Puerto Rico at Ponce will not be responsible for your work after thirty (30) days from the closure of the exhibition.
