The cultural impact of Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show

My head is spinning from the torrent of fantastic articles and interviews to follow up Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show. Many thanks to Peter Jordens for helping me to choose one (for now). This one, from PBS NewsHour (February 9, 2026), includes an interview with Vanessa Díaz (associate professor of Chicana/o and Latina/o Studies, Loyola Marymount University, and cofounder of the Bad Bunny Syllabus) and co-author, with Petra R. Rivera-Rideau (associate professor and chair of American Studies, Wellesley College) of P FKN R: How Bad Bunny Became the Global Voice of Puerto Rican Resistance, forthcoming from Duke University Press, February 2026. [Also see our previous post New Book: P FKN R.] In this interview, Díaz situates Bad Bunny in the historic development of Puerto Rican resistance. Watch video below.

Description: Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime show delivered a powerful message and made international headlines. The show was dense with symbolism, including messages of Puerto Rican pride and independence. But it also quickly became a magnet for criticism from President Trump. Amna Nawaz discussed more with Vanessa Diaz for our arts and culture series, CANVAS.
