The Caribbean Cultural Center Africa Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) hosts Mama Africa: An Afro-Venezuelan Film & Music Experience, featuring a screening of Mama Africa (La leyenda) by Benito “Ifayemisi” Márquez. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director and a music and dance presentation by drummers Marcos Espinoza and Miguel Ángel Monges. Dancer Nadezhda Hernandez, will be joining them in this celebration of the cinematic, musical, and cultural experience of the Afro-Venezuelan diaspora at CCCADI. This event takes place on October 30, 2019, at 6:00pm. The CCCADI is located at 120 East 125th Street, New York, New York.
Description: Mama Africa, directed by Afro-Venezuelan filmmaker Benito “Ifayemisi” Marquez, was filmed between the Republic of Nigeria and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Mama Africa is a stunning documentary that addresses the religious, cultural, and social expressions of the Yoruba communities and Afro-descendant peoples of southern Lake Maracaibo/Bobures (Venezuela). It centers the spiritual and community leader, Solagbade Popoola, (Lagos Nigeria) and Lendis Solarte, cultural leader of the Afro-descendant communities in Bobures, Venezuela as the protagonists of the story.
