The Lizt Alfonso Dance Company has been touring internationally to great acclaim. With Cuba vibra! [Vibrate!], the company was a hit in the United States again, where the dancers have performed several times. In “Martinique Theater Crams to See Lizt Alfonso Dance Company,” Prensa Latina wrote that there were over 900 people at the Gran Carbet Aimee Cesaire Theater in Martinique, night after night at the end of July, to see the performances of the show, offered there as part of the 48th edition of the Cultural Festival of Fort de France. According to Prensa Latina, the Alfonso Company also triumphed with Vibrate! in the United States, where it performed at the invitation of Dolly Parton (Queen of Country Music) at the Festival of Nations in Dollywood, Tennessee.
Audiences in Peru are anxiously waiting the dance company—led by company director and choreographer Lizt Alfonso—which will perform in November at Lima’s National Grand Theater. Radio Havana Cuba reports that the troupe has received both critics’ and audiences’ acclaim in more than 200 cities around the world “with its fusion style, a mix of flamenco, ballet, contemporary dance, folklore and popular Cuban dances. Cuba vibra! takes us on a tour of various rhythms which have made history on the island from 1950 up to the present, such as chachachá, mambo, bolero, rumba, conga, Latin jazz, swing and rock and roll.”
According to Radio Havana Cuba, the company, founded 29 years ago, is the only Cuban dance group that has performed in the Latin Grammy Awards ceremony and in 2008 received the International DORA Award for the Best Choreography of a Musical in Toronto, Canada, with the show Vida. It also won the International Spotlight Award of the Arts and Humanities granted by the White House in 2016.
