The collective exhibition “Pictural”—curated by Dominique Brebion—opened on April 26 and is on view until July 21, 2019 (NOT June 19 as our previous post indicated), at the Clément Foundation at Le François, Martinique.

Description (by Dominique Brebion, AICA Caraïbe du Sud): Pictural—at opposite poles of a retrospective or an exhaustive panorama of Martinican painting—brings together artists who question the act of painting and privileges visual artists who try to conquer new territories of painting, those who explore it and experiment with it: new tools, new pigments, new gestures, new insertion in space, mixed techniques.
These foundations, techniques, gestures, and unusual materials correspond to the need to conquer its singularity and to renew the act of painting. What is still painting and what is no longer painting? Is it still possible to speak about painting in the singular when artists are imagining new gestures and new pigments? How do artists from Martinique question and renew the act of painting?
