Among the exponents of the new avant-garde is Cuban artist Rachel Valdés, who is already adding the last details to the piece Inmersión [Immersion], which will be located in one of the intersections of Havana’s Malecón. The work is based on the idea of creating environments and bridges that extrapolate from reality and, at the same time, allow us to plunge into it in a different way, through the visual dialogues, distortions, and chromatic changes of a scene.

According to the artist, Inmersión [Immersion] is made of laminated safety glass, laminated safety mirror, stainless steel framework, black iron, and marine board.

The exhibition will allow the public to have close contact with the object and its environment through reflections, lights and shapes, in an interactive relationship between the viewer and the space.

According to a request from the historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal, after the Biennial, the exhibition will be a gift for the 500 Años de la Ciudad Maravilla [celebration of Havana’s 500 years] and will be located in the castle of the Royal Force.

Valdés is an artist with experience in the world of visual arts and her work has focused on creating multidimensional environments that can translate another version of this reality. For these, she uses different modes of artistic expression, including painting and photography, which allow her to create public interventions and large-scale installations. [. . .]

The presence of Rachel Valdés in the forthcoming date with the contemporary arts demonstrates the prominence of young artists in the well-attended event that engages the entire city every two years.
