The Puerto Rico’s 10th Festival of European Film [Festival de Cine Europeo de Puerto Rico] will take place from April 4 to 10 2019. One of the short films—Aurora (24 minutes; Diploma, Academy of Television and Film of Munich)—is by Puerto Rican-born and raised director Philip Escobar Jung. Screenings of this film will take place on Friday, April 5 at 6:50pm, and Saturday, April 6, at 9:30pm, at the Fine Arts at the Fine Arts Miramar Theater, in Miramar, Puerto Rico.

Description: 1979. Aurora, a small girl in the Bavarian Alps, undertakes a mountain trip with her beloved father Valentin to watch a shooting stars spectacle. Aurora wants to photograph the spectacle to show it to her distanced mother Sylvia, but up in the Alps, something unexpected happens that challenges Aurora’s inner world…

Aurora is the psychological drama of a little girl, set against the majestic backdrop of Alpine nature and weather phenomena. A story about family love.

More on Philip Escobar Jung, in his own words: I was born in the beautiful Caribbean island of Puerto Rico. My mother is German, my father is Panamanian, so I guess I am a Puertorrican mixed dog of sorts. I consider myself a universal citizen with very strong Puertorrican roots.

I went to a Jesuit High School in Puerto Rico and then studied a BA in Political Science at PRINCETON UNIVERSITY in New Jersey. I studied Law in Puerto Rico, and went in between to the New York Film Academy in 1996, where I got my first taste of Filmmaking. I finished my law degree in 1999 and left the next day to Germany to pursue my dream to become an artist and filmmaker. I never liked being a lawyer!

I moved to Germany, studied fiction film direction and advertising direction at the renowned ACADEMY OF TELEVISION AND FILM of MUNICH. There I shot fiction short films, ads, documentaries and my diploma short film “AURORA”. Parallel to my studies, I worked as an editor and managing content consultant at FRAMEPOOL AG in Munich.
