Film Screening: “Pura Belpré, Storyteller”


The Center for Puerto Rican Studies (CENTRO) at Hunter College presents a screening and discussion of the documentary film Pura Belpré, Storyteller, directed by Eduardo Aguiar. The screening will take place on Thursday, April 4, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00pm, at the CENTRO Library Room 120, Silberman School of Social Work (located at 2180 Third Avenue at 119th Street, New York, New York).

Description: Pura Belpré, New York City’s first Puerto Rican librarian was an ambassador for the New York Public Library’s work with the Puerto Rican/Latino community. The innovative storyteller, folklorist and puppeteer used puppetry, arts and crafts as tools to teach children to read, write and express themselves and transformed a community.
