A new Basquiat exhibition has opened in New York

Many thanks to AICA Caraïbe du Sud for sharing this article by Manon Garrigues (Vogue) on an exciting exhibition: Jean Michel-Basquiat at The Brant Foundation in New York (421 East 6th Street). This show will be open until May 15, 2019. Garrigues writes:

If you missed the Fondation Louis Vuitton’s sell-out exhibition this winter, there’s good news. The Brand Foundation in New York is opening its doors to an incredible series of works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, in a neighborhood that was integral to his work.

After the success of the Parisian exhibition dedicated to the New Yorker, Basquiat’s works are crossing back over the Atlantic for an exhibition of a similar magnitude. Head to The Brant Foundation, the gallery space on the Lower East Side, at 421 East 6th Street, a neighborhood where many of Jean Michel-Basquiat’s paintings came into being. Here, the works of the late artist, taken from the Brant collection, and private and public collections worldwide fill the exhibition, spanning some 7,000 square across four floors. It’s a chance to witness the precocious talent of an artist who was at the cusp of New York’s fertile underground art scene in the 1980s – a true pioneer. One more reason to go? It’s completely free.
