The Puerto Plata Carnival

This year the Puerto Plata Carnival began on February 3 and will end on March 9 at the Malecón de Puerto Plata [seaside walk] in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

Description: The Puerto Plata carnival is held every Sunday in February and the final parade will take place on March 9, at the Malecón Avenue (boardwalk) and in the city streets. The spectators have fun and enjoy the parade of the colorful floats and troupes with costumes, music, popular dances, different manifestations of art and culture, which reflect our cultural identity. Each year the organizers of the carnival, choose King Momo, who represents the person of the city that has struggled the most to maintain their traditions and concerts are held. You will be able to enjoy the Taimáscaros, characters from the Carnival of Puerto Plata, whose name is the union of the words Taíno and Mask. Their costumes combine maritime, Afro-Antillean, European and Taíno elements.
