St. John’s Bajo El Sol Gallery in new locale

The Bajo El Sol Gallery team announced that their hurricane recovery is in full swing and that they have moved to a new space at Mongoose Junction, St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. Home of the Gri Gri Project, Bajo El Sol is a gallery and events space dedicated to featuring the best in Virgin Islands fine arts and cultural expression. The gallery has reinstated its traditional First Friday art events; the first one took place on February 1st and will continue through the year. Here are excerpts from the Bajo El Sol Gallery newsletter.

We have expanded into a new larger, ground-level space at Mongoose Junction. The new Bajo El Sol Gallery is now located next to Made on St. John, across from Little Switzerland. In this new space we will be expanding our offerings to include an espresso, wine and dessert bar, and ‘island to island’ delectable treats made from the freshest ingredients by Sicilian chef Giovanni Gurrieri. Join us for a cup of 100 percent Puerto Rican coffee, indulge on chocolates made by fourth generation Caribbean chocolatiers, and make sure to sample homemade V.I.-style tarts by St. Johnian artist Karen Samuel.

This exciting move should also allow us to host more engaging programming (performances, readings, movie screenings, artist talks) and increase our hours and offerings in the future. We are excited about the possibility of having this larger space to feature more work and events for Virgin Islands residents and visitors.

On Friday, February 1st we will be hosting our traditional First Friday art event at Mongoose Junction from 6pm to 9pm. We will be offering our patrons a little teaser of some of our new offerings. In addition, we will be featuring new works by our gallery artists, live entertainment and a few other surprises.

Currently our plan is to have the gallery portion open from 10-7pm from Mon-Sat. and on Sunday’s from Noon to 5pm. The “Art Bar” as we are referring to our new venture is projected to be open by February 14th.
