The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas (NAGB) will host the opening of the National Exhibition 9 (NE9) titled “The Fruit and the Seed” on Thursday, December 13, 2018, starting at 6:00pm. The exhibition will be on view through March 31, 2019. The opening event promises festive entertainment, refreshments and hors d’oeuvres (with adequate parking available at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral). The event is free and open to the public.
Description: “The Fruit and the Seed” celebrates Bahamian art with works by “38 artists, writers, thinkers and instigators.” The exhibition centers around how artists are working to define their space and experiences. Whether it be through the lens of race, gender, parity and class as a way to clarify cultural, social and aesthetic decisions, the art-making process is used as a tool to bring to the fore ideologies on activism and advocacy, leading to a more empathetic and understanding culture.
