Last week (October 12), VP Records/Billboard announced a new album by Beres Hammond, Never Ending. Billboard said, “Hammond, at 63, remains an energetic and charismatic performer, his soulful, gravely vocals delivering timeless hits written about falling in and out of love and the bittersweet exchanges between those sentiments.” Billboard premiered the new video “I’m Alive,” the first single off Hammond’s new album.
“I’m Alive” is a 21st century ‘roots’ track, with Beres singing praises for life’s simple and essential joys. The visual, directed by RD Studios, aims to portray Beres Hammond’s childhood and the beginning of his love for music to his current day while performing and making music in the studio. Throughout the four-minute video, artists influenced by Beres are featured, including cameos by Jah Cure, Alborosie, Romain Virgo, Christopher Martin, Shenseea, Jesse Royal and more.
On his new album, Beres carries on the grand tradition of a romantic balladeer with sensitivity and swagger. “Never Ending” features 14 songs about love and life, in collaboration with longtime recording studio partners; Willie Lindo, Kirk Bennett, Handel Tucker, Errol ‘Flabba’ Carter, Leroy & David Heywood aka “Mafia & Fluxy,” Winston ‘Bopee’ Bowen, Dean Fraser and Robbie Lyn among others. “Never Ending” presents 21st century classics from the master of romance and reggae. “There is a magic to Beres’ music; he is the best storyteller, there’s always a theme to his songs and if you listen carefully to ‘Never Ending’, many of the tracks are interlinked,” said Christopher Chin, CEO of VP Records.
