The artists’ works celebrate Caribbean culture, “with a common spirit of nostalgia — borrowing feelings and ideas of Afro-Caribbean life styles and cultures,” according to the exhibition curator Carlton D. Murrell.

Artists include Jean Dominique Volcy, Nigel Pierre, Patricia Brintle, Lennox Warner, Ava Tomlinson, Stanwyck Cromwell, David G. Wilson, and Carlton D. Murrell. Some of the artists have been featured in the documentary Plight of the Caribbean Artists (2012), which is available to watch on YouTube.

Murrell continues, “It is my hope that our viewing audience would find as much joy and possibly healing of sort from this beautiful art display as I have as a curator, working with these highly professional artists.”

The opening reception will be held on Thursday at &pm, and the exhibition will remain up until September 30.

When: Thursday, August 23, 7:00 pm
Where: Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (161-04 Jamaica Avenue, Jamaica, Queens)
