New Issue: Nierika (14)

[Many thanks to Dominique Brebion for bringing this item to our attention.] The latest issue of Nierika: Revista de estudios del arte is now available online. Leading Cuban art critic and educator Yolanda Wood coordinated this issue—Nierika,  number 14 (July-September 2018)—focusing on the theme “Arte y cuerpo: lenguas contemporáneas en las islas del Caribe insular” [Art and the Body: Contemporary Languages in the Caribbean Islands].” [Nierika is housed at Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, Mexico.]

Dominique Brebion (AICA Caraïbe du Sud) describes the journal: It is a digital journal comprising almost two hundred pages, with dynamic and airy graphics, and extensively illustrated in color. In this issue, one will find critical articles about the work of artists from Latin America, the Caribbean, and its diaspora: Belkis Ayón, Raquel Païewonsky, Terry Boddie, Renee Cox, and Frida Khalo, among others. Among these is an article that specifically addresses the theme of the body in the contemporary art developed by Francophone Caribbean artists: Ernest Breleur, Jacqueline Fabien, Gilles Elie dit Cosaque, Shirley Rufin, Kelly Sinnapah Mary, Habdaphaï, and photographers Jean-Luc de Laguarigue and Robert Charlotte.
