Cuban artist Luis Rodríguez Noa’s “Bajo el mismo cielo” [Under the Same Sky] opened yesterday, July 13, 2018 (6-9pm) at Galería Cubana (located at 357 Commercial Street in Provincetown, Massachussetts). This exhibition will be on view until July 26, 2018.
Biography (from Conde Contemporary): Born June 14, 1970 in Baracoa, Guantánamo, Luis Rodríguez Noa, also known as NOA, works from his studio in Centro Habana, a neighborhood in Havana, Cuba. The son of an artist, he grew up surrounded by paintings, books, and an incredibly artistic atmosphere.
His first drawing classes were given by his father, artist Luis Eliades Rodríguez, at the uniquely Cuban institution “Casa de la Cultura”. At the tender age of 12, the younger Rodríguez was selected by the Cuban art school and left home to start his art studies. He graduated from the National Art School in Havana in 1989, and in 1994 graduated from the Higher Institute of Industrial Design (as a designer of Visual Communication). Luis Rodríguez Noa continues to live and work in Havana and is a member of the Association of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and of the Cuban Prográfica Committee.
NOA’s work often focuses on the natural chaos inherent in the culture of Havana street life. The sights, sounds and smells of which fill his second floor studio in Centro Habana. His work extends beyond painting and sculpture and into both literature and the graphic arts.
