Last March, MinoritART extended a call for papers for a second issue of Pratiques visuelles décoloniales, organized around the theme: “Colonialité esthéthique et art contemporain” [Decolonial Visual Practices, No. 2: Aesthetic Coloniality and Contemporary Art]. The deadline for submission of abstracts has now changed to June 24, 2018.
Introduction to MinoritART: The MinoritART research group is led by Eddy Firmin (artist and PhD candidate), Catherine Cosaque (who studies postcolonial tourism practices), Fred Laforge (artist and doctor of Arts Studies and Practices), and curator Cecilia Brackmort; Sarah Tchou (B.A. in Political Science and History of Art) is in charge of translation; and communications are led by Géraldine Entiope. Together, they form the reading and editing committee of the art space Réseau d’Études Décoloniales [Decolonial Studies Network].
Context and Dissemination of Texts—Pratiques visuelles décoloniales 2: The Francophone world has recently opened up to decolonial thinking. The journal CAL 62 (Revue Cahier des Amériques Latines (2010), # 62) or more recently the book, Penser l’envers obscur de la modernité: Une anthropologie de la pensée décoloniale latino-américaine (2014, Éditions Pulim)—edited by Claude Bourguignon Rougier, Philippe Colin, and Ramón Grosfoguel—participate in a revolution of thought that links the continents today. For two years, the inter-university team of the Decolonial Studies Network has been distributing some of its research on its site (http://reseaudecolonial.org/). It is in this context that the call for papers for the second issue of the online journal Pratiques visuelles décoloniales opens. Dedicated to decolonial artistic practices, this recent journal has a strong ally, Diversité Artistique Montréal (DAM), which will also take part in the outreach for contributions and dissemination. (All the articles in the first issue of the online journal were consulted over than a thousand times in two weeks; as a result, the journal quickly became an important area of visibility for current artistic research.) Contributors are strongly advised to accompany the texts with images and/or video links. These elements will provide relevant data when selecting texts. The call is addressed to artists, artist-researchers, historians, and art critics. Articles will be published on the website of the (Francophone) decolonial studies network at http://reseaudecolonial.org/and linked by DAM.
