First Lady Welcomes Spain’s Queen Letizia to Haiti

A report from the Latin American Herald Tribune.

Haitian first lady Martine Moise on Tuesday welcomed Spain’s Queen Letizia upon her arrival at Port-au-Prince’s international airport.

The Spanish air force jet carrying the queen and the Spanish secretary of state for international cooperation, Fernando Garcia Casas, flew in from the neighboring Dominican Republic and landed a few minutes before 3:30 pm.

President Jovenel Moise and the first lady will offer a luncheon at the Royal Palace in honor of the Spanish queen on Wednesday.

“Together we can show other countries that Haiti is full of people who are proud of their origin, history and culture,” Moise said.

During her stay in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere – and which is still suffering the effects of the devastating 2010 earthquake – the queen will inaugurate the Spanish technical aid office together with Spain’s ambassador to Haiti, Manuel Lorenzo.
