A Study Day organized around the theme “W(i)e zijn marrons?” [Who Are Maroons? We Are Maroons] will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at 12:00-5:00pm, at the Maas Theater (Sint-Jobsweg 3) in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Keti Koti Rotterdam organizes this Study Day on the history and culture of Maroons ―Surinamese who freed themselves from slavery― and their current state of affairs in Suriname, French Guyana and the Netherlands. The panel will consist of Hugo Jabini, Susi and Simba Mosis, Alex van Stipriaan and Kensly Vrede. Special guests: Richard and Sally Price. Chairman: Sylvester Aboikoni. Opening by Kabt Hellen Ajentoena and Kabt Mutu Poeketie. Maroon dishes such as Afingi/Apiti and Peanut and Coconut Rice will be served.
