Lin-Manuel Miranda in Talks for ‘Golden Compass’ Miniseries

A report from Complex.

Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials series of novels have already seen a few adaptions, including the big-budget 2007 film The Golden Compass, but due to the success of his latest book it seems we’re getting another adaption. The Book of Dust, the first book in Pullman’s new trilogy following the original His Dark Materials, has amped up planning for an upcoming miniseries based on the original trilogy, and Lin-Manuel Mirandacould land one of the lead roles.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the Hamilton star and writer is close to signing a deal to play Lee Scoresby in BBC One’s adaption of the His Dark Materials trilogy, after the series first got commissioned all the way back in 2015 with Bad Wolf TV and New Line Cinema producing. Just as exciting, however, is that Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper of The King’s Speech is in talks to direct all eight episodes of the miniseries.

The breakout star of Logan, Dafne Keen, is also in talks to join the adaption as the young orphan Lyra. The series is set to follow the story of all three installments in the trilogy, including The Golden Compass/Northern LightsThe Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. No word on when we can expect to see the series debut, but it’s definitely something to look forward to based on the talent involved.
